Read what a producer
wrote to a coach regarding the talents skills.
This DVD covers all this and more
Producers Notes:
To
date coaching on a small level has been successful
as 'artists name' did not understand timing,
harmonizing, layering, matching voice to
beats/custom melodies she never heard, nor had any
recording experience prior to our collaboration.
Since then she’s come quite far! We are now
producing great music however I feel we have capped
and would love to properly tune 'artists name'’s
voice/abilities to their best potential before
producing her first album on a broadcast level.
Qualities:
*Great range, great oscillation, sweet melodic
phases.
*Great range in styles however also tends to stick
to the same 2-3 melodies/notes. Needs help
experimenting with octaves/sharps/unwinding to all
her reachable note capacity and all notes in
between. Especially with her own music. Singing
existing radio music is a breeze, singing her own
music is somewhat different and the
unknown/uncontrolled comes out.
*Good
control of high notes.
*Good
control of covering existing songs/effects.
*Vast
amounts of throat changes/movements causing natural
effects however not fully controlled yet.
*Amazing potential with proper practice and a real
professional coaches help.
Things to note/work on:
Tends to drop tone and pitch at the end of most bars
when singing. Needs work holding notes long and
natural, then with some flux/chorus/reverb/warble…
Needs improvement increasing low note volume and
decreasing high/loud notes to a controlled power to
even out her range and start to control where/what
is accented with loud/soft effects.
Needs
help with timing and understanding 4/4 – 4/16 – 4/32
etc. I always try to get her to tap her foot or bob
her head to feel the music/beat/structure and when
to come in/fade out etc. it has proven to be
difficult, even with numbers and counting in. Please
work on half notes/quarter notes, timing when
starting the song/chorus/verse. Practice coming in a
half/quarter note before the 1-4 (first note/bar in
measure 1 of whatever you’re practicing), then
half/quarter notes after the bar etc. Basically time
play and making sure to hit/understand importance of
controlling her timing/adjusting lyrics to bpm/track/melodies
well.
Explosives & Siblants: Lacks continuity with style
to one track/song. Hard to explain this one, will
try: When recording and a loud note needs to come
out, we need to turn her head or she needs to move
away from the mic as not to cause explosives. This
strain/loudness also affects her signature style and
either a nasal effect or off tone unwarranted
frequency takes over. Needs to be rounded or
perfected to arrive when needed/appropriate to that
song/part.
Breathes away when ending most bars/killing the
note abrubtly and shifting pitch down, is hesitant
to let go and feel the music, rather tries to tie
her voice to each track technically, will not
scat/play, is hesitant to sound silly :P very
important to be bubbly/experimental especially with
the kind of raw closet talent.
In
closing please get 'artists name' to practice do re
mi’s in different timing variations and assign
appropriate ‘homework’ which will in turn be her
daily practice routine before final tuning…
Thank
you kindly, these ARE just one persons opinions and
suggestions, I would love any and all additional
improvements one can make and truly feel that once a
proper course is finished she will be a showstopper. |
